A few years ago, senior editor Helen Pfeffer and Circle president Harold Goldberg first heard the wonder that is the voice of singer Kimberly Hawkey. It was a sparkling summer night in the Catskill mountains at a distillery on the well-traveled road that is Route 28. Kimberly accompanied herself on the banjo.
With Kimberly’s deep knowledge of jazz and film standards, she had the house completely engaged. Helen and Harold have seen Kimberly a dozen times since then. As Fall came around, she seemed the perfect choice for the 13th annual New York Game Awards. Kimberly fits right in with our long-term goal to bring extraordinary indie acts to our larger streaming audience.
Kimberly will be an essential part of the Neil Druckmann Legend Award portion of our show. She’ll sing three songs we very much think you’ll recognize.
A Johnny Mercer Award winner and Gold Medalist at the American Traditions Vocal Competition, Kimberly has also conquered the NYC Cabaret Showdown. She’s graced iconic venues like Birdland, Zinc Bar and the Iridium, equally mesmerizing with her dulcet voice or adding banjo, piano, washboard, and even mouth-trumpet when the song demands it.
Six genre-spanning albums showcase her versatility: the swinging Music of the Night and All Aboard! with The Swingaroos, and the intimate Elvanelle & the Escape Act featuring her solo chanteuse magic. But Kimberly isn’t just a chameleon; she’s a storyteller. Her entertaining theme shows, threading vaudeville through golden-age Hollywood, Broadway hits, or the Great American Songbook, prove that music and connection are her true north.
Kimberly Hawkey isn’t just a singer; she’s a storyteller with a voice that bridges generations and genres. You’ll be able to see and hear Kimberly for yourself at the New York Game Awards on 1/23/24! Join us!
