I thought about it for a very long time, ever since February. It was not a decision I took lightly.
But I had to fire Reggie from the New York Game Awards as a host. I don’t think Reggie has been fired from anything before, but it had to be done.
And I had to fire myself, too.
Both of us love hosting the show for you. We love the New York community and we love the online community that watches from around the world at 500,000 viewers strong.
And we love the show.
But we actually haven’t seen the show because we’re on stage hosting all night. We thought we’d relax this year and watch it with you – just like everyone in the audience. I also write to show and executive produce it. I’ll continue in that role.
So we hope you understand. And Reggie and I will be on stage at various times at during the night. Next January 19th, Reggie and I will actually present the Big Apple Award for Game of the Year – along with our interns and everyone from the New York Videogame Critics Circle.
And the two of us will be on stage a couple of other times too – first, to announce our Rockstar Games scholarship winner.
We’ll be onstage for the Legend Award too. And we can’t wait to tell you who the recipient is because this is a such a big deal for us.
Reggie and I know that Lara Lunardi and Arda Ocal will be superior hosts. They’ve done this kind of thing before; they know the gig. And hosting is kind of their profession. You’ll love them, I’m sure.
We hope you’ll join us for what we think will be the best show we’ve ever had. We have lots of surprises in store and we’ll roll them out soon.
We’re also happy that New Blood will be sponsoring our after party event – with special theme drinks for the occasion.
We don’t have that many tickets for the after party just for sale, but it’s a great place to hang with everyone who’s just been on stage – and with our legend winner, too.
So do you get tickets for the show and the after party now! We’d love for you to join us in January.
