The Lookback: The PlayStation 4 Reveal, Covered By Our Stellar Interviewer Jill Scharr!

Gaming consoles have come a long way since the early days, slowly but surely becoming a household staple for anyone living with or raising casual gamers all across the world. Yet the more things change, the more they stay the same, as fans young and old still queue up at stores and online sites to get their hands on the newest hardware out there. The announcement of the PlayStation 4 had gamers all across the world jumping for joy, and the Circle needed someone talented to handle the announcement, luckily, we had Jill Scharr on our roster!

It was the second week of February 2013, the 2nd Annual New York Video Game Awards Ceremony had come and gone with a bang at NYU. Gaming had just begun to hit it’s stride, releasing extraordinary titles such as TellTale’s The Walking Dead or Thatgamecompany’s Journey, and people were wondering how could times get any better?

Jill, then our intern, answered that question with graceful style through rapid fire interviews, walking into the horde of curious faces present at the PS4’s presentation to gleam insights from writers all throughout the industry.

Engadget’s Ben Gilbert and Yahoo! Games’ Ben Silverman shared not only first names but sentiments about lack of hardware specs being shown, a tough pill to swallow for tech focused professionals such as them. The PlayStation 4’s true capabilities wouldn’t be shown until marketing was ready, a smart move on Sony’s part due to the outstanding change the PS4 brought to console gaming handling of graphical fidelity.

The Circle’s Founder Harold Goldberg was thoroughly excited to see the new bump in graphics, hopeful to get his hands on new games like Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs and Guerilla Game’s Killzone: Shadowfall. His only disappointment came when rising stars such as Rockstar Games or Japan Studio’s Last Guardian weren’t present, lamenting how amazing it would’ve been to see them showcase content on brand new hardware (and the fact that Sony couldn’t show the console box just yet).

All in all, Jill walked away from the presentation with a wellspring of opinions from ecstatic journalists, each of whom were desperate to discover just how great the PS4 would be.

Today, the console is still keeping up with newer generations, and Jill has gone on to do amazing work (previously at Bungie) and now as a “Narrative Chef” for Magic Soup Games.

We’re hopeful that Jill keeps being stellar as always!
