When I saw a trailer for YIIK, A Postmodern RPG, I was pretty well floored. It just seemed so cool and weird (in a good way). You’ll get it with your full priced ticket at the New York Game Awards – for free!
Also, that trailer was 90’s retro but also spoke to the troubled times in which we exist today. And the art style of this surreal Japanese-style RPG from Ackk Studios and Ysbryd Games made me think of everyone from Dali to Cezanne to Julieta’s street art.
Beyond the artwork, YIIK seems compelling and mysterious and has the feel of a well-thought-out JRPG.
Then, something amazing happened. The team has offered a free code for YIIK to the first 300 attendees at the New York Game Awards.
Here’s more about YIIK:
“The game contains action and platforming elements, as well as meticulously designed story-based dungeons. In addition to these story-based dungeons, YIIK will feature randomly generated dungeons called ‘The Mind Dungeon’ that contain puzzles, story elements, and opportunities for the characters to level up beyond the standard leveling experience that is expected from battle”.
In a preview, PC Gamer’s Tom Sykes wrote, “Having more JRPG-style games … always feels like a Very Good Thing, particularly when they’re this interesting.”
You’ll already have a copy of Gris in your envelope. Now, the New York Videogame Critics Circle adds YIIK to the mix. And we’re not done. Stay tuned for more!
