As we head into our landmark 15th New York Game Awards event in January, we are fondly remembering the lights of our first decade and a half.
Throughout the years at the New York Game Awards, we’ve had many opening acts give their all to start the Awards off with a bang. In remembering the many gifted individuals we’ve hosted, it’s hard not to harken back to the expert nerdcore rap performance of Schaffer The Darklord at the 2nd Annual Awards show!
Born and raised in Queens, NY, Schaffer has been touring all around the country and doing shows since as early as 2005. As a veteran of rap, comedy, and drumming, Schaffer’s laundry list of skills is only accentuated by his knack for gentlemanly flair, present in all of his appearances.
Back in 2013, he appeared as the opening act for the 2nd Annual New York Game Awards, strutting up to the stage at NYU in a comfortable tuxedo and spitting verses about his life to the attentive crowd we hosted. After nearly four minutes of a masterfully crafted verse, Schaffer thanks the crowd for listening and glides off stage with a seamless flow, urging everyone to enjoy the festivities as he makes his sleek exit.
To this day, Schaffer continues to be an idol among many that have come from NYC – and beyond. We hope to see his shows thrive in every aspect as we move onto the 15th Annual Awards, never forgetting the dapper darklord and his villainous verses.
