Hear ye! Hear ye!
Gamers, writers and lovers of all things cool — the New York Videogame Critics Circle will gather on February 9th to celebrate the best in the industry for the 5th Annual New York Game Awards.
Tickets are available right here!
Join us for some serious merriment and talk about games on Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 at Villain in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York at 8 p.m.. Entry is granted through the donation of $20. The donation also includes access to the open bar courtesy of Bronx Brewery (must be 21 to drink) and the After Party with live music from Tom Clark, who’ll perform songs from Fallout 4 and Grand Theft Auto V.
We have a very limited amount of tickets. Ticket donation proceeds go to our scholarship fund and to writing and editing NYGameCritics.com.
-This year, on-air comics from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Trevor Noah will join Daily Show writers like Daniel Radosh in putting the show together. All are Emmy Award winners. We’ll also have a great musical act or two who’s perfect for the year in games. Here are photos from last year’s event.
-On February 9th, our Legend Award will go to Rockstar Games. ‘Nuff said!
–We will offer a scholarship to smart but needy high schoolers in New York. One of the schools we’ve worked with before is The Dreamyard in the Bronx. We’ll work with them this year. We’ll bring their best students into this scholarship contest. The Circle feels that one of the last frontiers in games is a good story. So we’ll have a story contest at The Dreamyard. It’s local and it’s important for us to reach out to do good in the community.
-Students, even in college, still don’t know how to get a job in games. So we wouldn’t stop going to the schools to spread the word about games and games’ careers when the scholarship contest ends. We would continue our drive to inform, educate and entertain them during the course of the year.
-In addition, we’ve just voted to offer a Best Games Journalism prize. That prize is open to journalists around the world. Our Circle Critics would vote for the nominees, which would be chosen by the Circle as well. Circle members aren’t eligible, though. The prize doesn’t include money or gifts, just recognition and a physical award.
-The New York Game Awards sponsors include Twitch, Green Man Gaming, Razer and The Bronx Brewery. Scholarship sponsors include Sony, Twitch and Green Man Gaming.
