All of us at the New York Videogame Critics Circle would like readers to note that intern Kimari Rennis has been accepted into New York University’s Future Game Designers program. The prestigious 14-week program, which meets all day on Saturdays through May 11th, is a move forward for the Bronx teen as she gathers the knowledge that will help her in college and beyond.

Kimari, like Ronald Gordon who’s now creating one of our college circles, has proven to be a valuable addition to The Circle. The high school junior who attends the DreamYard Preparatory School, has helped out with our panel discussions and talks, has spoken before the older adults we mentor and has taught young kids to play games during our community days – all with eager enthusiasm.

Because Kimari lives, thinks and breathes games, she will do well in NYU’s program. There, she’s be part of a “workshop designed to introduce talented high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors to the process of digital game development and the game industry.” She “will work alone and in groups to create a series of digital prototypes or ‘sketches’, culminating in a final polished game building on the lessons learned in the earlier sketches.”

Congratulations, Kimari, from all of us here at the New York Videogame Critics Circle!

  1. Such an AMAZING REVIEW and testament to Kimari’s dedication in becoming a future Game Designer! Kimari is known for using her limited resources or allowance as early as the age of 9, to purchase robotics, code them on her laptop, then demonstrate for her family & friends! Thank you Harold Goldberg for your mentorship, friendship, guidance & expertise! As Kimari’s mom, I am excited for her future endeavors in doing the things she adores and is also great at it! From playing 🎮 to podcasts… she is living her Dreams!🙏✊
