Hello, members of the Critics Circle and the fans that follow us. My name is Ronald Gordon and I am the 17 year old intern here at the NYVGCC. I enjoy games with action, adventure, fighting, and story. I love a good game of Skyrim or Dragon Age: Inquisition but I can also sit down and play a nice rousing round of Tekken 6 or Dead Or Alive 5: Last Round.
Let’s get right into it catch up with some of the work our fellow critics have been posting.
A number of Circle Critics and writers have made the trip to San Francisco for the Game Developers Conference. Mike Andronico from Tom’s Guide and Jordan Minor from Geek.com are psyched about what they may find. We’ll have more next week!
Shane Ferguson dove into the final beta of Sea of Thieves and enjoyed it greatly. Shane talked about how the game doesn’t hold your hand when it comes to missions and objectives.If you want to play, you’re going to need a cooperative team to play with since it’s an online multiplayer. Critics Circle Founder Harold Goldberg recently recorded a podcast with Richard Garriott about his new game that he’s creating. Harold talks with Richard about the ups and downs of making the game “Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues.” You can read more about it here.
Gita Jackson wrote an article about a very unique character from Dragon Age: Inquisition, one of my recent binge games. Gina’s article summarizes elf archer Sera’s missions and then goes in depth on how Sera is a well-written character – which some people might not believe. You can read more about it here.
Heather Alexandra wrote an article about how recent 2D platformer “Uurnog Uurnlimited,” reminded her of Super Mario 2. Heather talks about how the game is fun and lets the player be creative when it comes to deciding how a level should be done. You can read more here.
News From Beyond The Circle
In recent news, a group of 15 year old kids from India teamed up and made a game on Steam. The game is called “Alter Army” and it’s a fast paced 2D action platformer. The developers, Vague Pixels, have created a story where the universe is dying and you are one of the last few people trying to take control of its resources. You’ll have to fight your way through a plethora of different monsters and bosses in different places, using weaponry and special crystals to live barely even a few more decades. The game is supposed to have four unique characters, six distinct biomes to roam through. It also has an aggression system which gives you bonuses for being aggressive and a grading system for killing monsters that’ll get you secrets and other unlockables. Another team of 15 year old kids made a game about drunk driving. The game, “Don’t Drive Drunk” is an endless drunk driving arcade game made by Winglett Entertainment. The objective is to drive for as long as you can in a variety of different cars you can collect and in this the low polygon environment. You can earn coins as you drive to spend on 25 new vehicles. The game advocates for people to stop driving while under the influence and shows the dangers of doing so. It’s free to play so it’s available to everyone that wants it.
