Sponsor Alert: Razer, For Gamers, By Gamers

Razer was the very first sponsor of the New York Videogame Critics Circle Awards.

And we’re so glad that they’re back this year.

What we do with sponsors is carefully curate them. We don’t accept sponsorship from game publishers or developers. As critics, we feel that crosses a line that shouldn’t be crossed. We don’t accept sponsorships from just anyone. We’re not in it for the money, after all.

The few sponsors we do take on really must have done outstanding things for consumers.

On the occasions I’ve talked with Min-Liang Tan, Razer’s thoughtful CEO and Creative Director, gamers as fans are uppermost on his mind. He does not take gamers for granted.

You can see it way back with their first gaming rigs and you can see it in the design of the upcoming, modular computer system called Project Christine. In a headline for a piece written by Engadget’s Ben Gilbert, a Critics Circle member, the computer was called “insane” – in a good way.

Gilbert said it brilliantly when he wrote “Like Fiona before it, Christine is an ambitious project from an ambitious company: a modular-computing initiative with a form factor space aliens would appreciate.” It looks like something from a highly-stylized, futuristic movie.

So welcome back to the New York Videogame Critics Circle, Razer. It’s good to have you aboard.
